Helicopter Crash: “Your Witchcraft Has Made Your People Die in Plane Crash – Ellen Ama Daaku to NDC

Ellen Ama Daaku, a communications officer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has blamed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including three government ministers.

During an interview on Wontumi TV/FM, Ama Daaku attributed the horrific incident to what she described as the NDC’s “witchcraft.” She argued that the crash would have been averted if the NDC, during its time in opposition, had not vehemently opposed the former Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government’s initiative to procure new aircraft and helicopters for the Ghana Armed Forces.

“As for you, your witchcraft has made your people die in a plane crash. We are all quiet, but it was because of their witchcraft. Let me explain to you why I said this happened because of their witchcraft,” she stated in the Twi dialect.

Ama Daaku specifically called out NDC’s Honorable Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is currently theMinister for Foreign Affairs, for his past actions. “Two years ago, His Excellency Nana Addo, through his defence minister, Dominic Nitiwul, went to Parliament and said that we need to retool our military. What transpired? Okudzeto Ablakwa, with his teeth like a plier used to break glass, descended on Akufo-Addo in this country, a whole president,” she said.

She further criticized the NDC for not reining in Ablakwa’s behavior, suggesting that the tragedy could have been avoided if the procurement of new aircraft had been allowed to proceed without opposition. “Anytime Nana Addo travels, he (Ablakwa) goes to the airlines to ask how much it costs. Were we not in this country? Did they call him to order? During that time, if they had been quiet for us to order the planes and helicopters (sic)… we might not have encountered this tragedy,” she added.

Honor Crash Victims by Ending Galamsey – Nii Moi Thompson

Meanwhile, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), has called on the government to honor the eight victims of the helicopter crash by intensifying its fight against illegal mining.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 11, 2025, after signing a book of condolences at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters, Dr. Thompson emphasized that decisive action against galamsey would be the most fitting tribute to the deceased. The victims, who included senior government officials, were on their way to Obuasi to launch a new program aimed at helping illegal miners adopt sustainable practices.

“They were flying there as part of efforts to fight galamsey. The most befitting tribute to their memory is to decisively eliminate the menace. We cannot shed crocodile tears, we must work hard to ensure they did not die in vain,” he stated.

A state funeral for the victims is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra.
