NPP Sneaked An Imposter To Parliament To Pass E-levy – Netizens React To Adwoa Safo’s Comment

Former Dome Kwabenya lawmaker Sarah Adwoa Safo has stated that she has no regrets about not casting a ballot in the 2022 Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
Safo said on Asempa FM on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, that she made her choice because she was concerned about the impact the price will have on ordinary Ghanaians. Torn between her loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and her people, she ultimately chose to abstain.
“The E-Levy was opposed by certain NPP members due to the hardship it would give to regular Ghanaians who are already having a hard time making ends meet. I had conversations with my father about it, and I felt conflicted between my political party and my faith. I took a firm decision to recuse myself. “I am excited for the day in Parliament when Members of Parliament will have the guts to vote against government policies,” she remarked.
The E-Levy was passed despite a walkout by the Minority group on March 29, 2022. The current John Dramani Mahama government has announced the levy’s removal will take effect at the end of March 2025.
NPP Brought An Imposter To Pass E-Levy
Safo’s recent comments have ignited a social media firestorm, with many interpreting her statement as an implication that the then-ruling NPP brought a non-parliamentarian “imposter” to Parliament to vote in her place.
“NPP actually brought an imposter to Parliament just to pass E-levy. This is a serious issue but we know Ghana’s Parliament won’t do anything about it. Criminals led this country for 8 solid years,” one post said.
During the E-Levy vote, Parliament had an equal number of majority and minority members, requiring every vote to be counted. Two MPs (one from each side) were said to be unavailable, but a masked woman appeared on the majority side on the day of the vote, increasing their numbers.
This led to allegations that an imposter had been snuck in to replace Safo, who was reportedly out of the country.
Safo’s recent comments have fueled the suspicion, leading to widespread questions: “If you did not vote for the E-levy bill to be passed, then who was that woman in Parliament that day?”
