How NPP Defeat Document Leaked – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Reveals

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former majority leader, has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the release of a fact-finding committee’s report regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral loss in the Ashanti Region.

Some party members had accused Dennis Kwakwa, the former NPP Ashanti Regional Communications Director and Coordinator for the committees involved in producing the report, of leaking the document.

In a YouTube radio interview, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who previously served as the Suame Member of Parliament and is the Chairman of the Investigative Committee established by the Ashanti Regional Executive, dismissed these allegations and exonerated Kwakwa.

“This report was not leaked by Kwakwa. He acted as the coordinator for each committee. Once we completed our work and finalized the report, he received the final document. This has led some to believe he was responsible for the leak, but that is not the case. I have conducted an investigation and identified who leaked the report, but I cannot disclose their name publicly. It was not intentional; I believe the individual was sharing it with others, and during that process, it was inadvertently leaked.”

Report Distribution

He elaborated on the report’s limited distribution: “Only four people had a soft copy of the report. Kwakwa was the custodian because he was the Coordinator. When we concluded, we decided that nobody should have the report. So even I, as the Chairman, didn’t have a copy of it. There was a need for us to give an elderly party member a copy, and we did so. Because the person was not in Kumasi, we had to send him the soft copy. There was a second person who was also key but had traveled. So he requested that a copy of the report be sent to him so he could read it while on his flight. And so it was sent to him. These two persons would not have leaked the report.”

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu added, “There was a group that the committee had met. We were very transparent with the group, and they requested a copy of the report when it was ready. So we gave them a copy, but because the group was large, the report got leaked in the process of being transmitted among its members. It was not deliberate.”
