K.T. Hammond Loses 2024 Election Petition Case, Slapped With GH¢60K Fine

The High Court in Obuasi has dismissed the election petition filed by former Trade and Industry Minister Kobina Tahiru Hammond (popularly called K.T. Hammond), challenging the election of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani as Member of Parliament for the Adansi Asokwa constituency. In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Justice Kwabena Twumasi fined Hammond ¢60,000 for what the court deemed a frivolous use of judicial resources.
During the 2024 general elections, Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to Dorani by a margin of 954 votes. Dorani secured 14,229 votes, while Hammond received 13,275. Dissatisfied with the election results, the former Minister filed a petition at the Obuasi High Court on January 15, 2025.
However, Hammond failed to appear before the court on three consecutive scheduled dates, prompting the court to proceed with the ruling on August 19, 2025.
Speaking to the media after the proceedings, Richard Andy, counsel for the incumbent MP Dorani, stated that the petition lacked any legal foundation. He said the ruling would allow his client to focus fully on his responsibilities as the elected representative of Adansi Asokwa.

What Actually Led To K.T. Hammond Losing His Seat in Adansi Asokwa
Earlier in February, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, publicly stated that KT Hammond, the former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, had lost touch with his constituents as early as 2023, contributing to his electoral defeat in 2024. During an interview on Channel One TV, Dr. Amoakohene said he was not surprised by Hammond’s electoral loss, and criticized his failure to address the basic needs of the constituents.
“KT Hammond when I entered his constituency, after engaging two shops, I realized that there was a golden opportunity. We had targeted Adansi Asokwa since 2012, when I first entered the constituency as far back in 2023, I noticed that he had lost touch with the people. “And the needs of the people were not on his table. The only thing they mentioned every time was to have access to a toilet facility, that was the major thing they needed. KT had been there for 24 years, and couldn’t provide that for them.”
