NPP Bans Party Members From Discussing Party Issues

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership has instructed its members to avoid bringing up topics in the media that can cause division within the party.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong issued a statement dated March 20, acknowledging frustrations expressed by party members in the wake of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections. He urged calm and directed a halt to further negative public discussions, emphasizing ongoing efforts to restore unity.
“As an officer of the Party…all Party members are hereby directed to immediately cease discussing Party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” the statement continued. Additionally, members were reminded to respect the party’s constitution, particularly the clause that protects and enhances the party’s reputation. The party’s national, regional, and constituency disciplinary committees will be notified of any infractions of the rule, the statement said.
Upcoming Allegations
This directive comes after recent public comments by high-ranking officials exposed deep rifts within the NPP.
• Dr. Stephen Amoah (Nhyiaeso MP): In a recent radio interview, threatened to expose those responsible for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
• Sarah Adwoa Safo (Former Dome-Kwabenya MP): Granted multiple media interviews accusing party leadership of orchestrating her defeat in parliamentary primaries due to her absence from Parliament. She made strong allegations about corruption within the party, including accusations against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding the school feeding program.
Adwoa Safo is now sanctioned by the NPP and is scheduled to appear before the Party’s disciplinary committee due to these statements, which they believe violate the party’s constitution. Following the directive, Safo has reportedly cancelled a scheduled interview with GHOne TV. While her reasons for cancellation have not been publicly stated, it is suspected that she did this in compliance with the NPP’s new media policy.
