Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror Appointed New Clerk of Parliament

The Parliamentary Service Board has appointed Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror as the new Clerk of Parliament, effective January 1, 2025. The decision followed an extraordinary meeting in November 2024, during which three deputy clerks were interviewed for the position. This appointment precedes the retirement of current Clerk Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who reaches the mandatory retirement age of 60 on February 2, 2025.

Mr. Djietror, a seasoned lawyer with extensive experience within the parliamentary service, has a distinguished career. He has served as Clerk at the Table of the House and as clerk to numerous committees, including the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the Business Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Speaker Alban Bagbin has already issued Mr. Djietror’s appointment letter, enabling him to assume his duties on January 1, 2025. Mr. Nsiah has been instructed to commence his annual leave on December 31, 2024. Mr. Ahumah Djietror is scheduled to oversee the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the Speaker on January 7, 2025. Given his experience as the longest-serving clerk at the Table, a smooth transition is anticipated. The Speaker is expected to formally announce the appointment to Parliament before the Christmas recess.
