Nigeria Caps Currency Declaration at $10,000 For International Arrivals, E-currency Declaration Form Introduced At Airlines

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a directive mandating all international airlines serving the country to enforce the existing $10,000 currency declaration requirement for all arriving passengers.
According to a statement released Tuesday by NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu, the directive, dated April 24, 2025, aims to address identified shortcomings in adherence to established financial disclosure laws.
The NCAA stated that the move is intended to strengthen Nigeria’s efforts to combat money laundering and to comply with international financial regulations.
The directive requires international airlines to inform passengers, either during the flight or prior to landing, of the legal obligation to declare any cash or negotiable instruments exceeding $10,000 USD or its equivalent in other currencies.

Airlines are also required to distribute currency declaration forms onboard for passengers to complete before arrival.
Achimugu noted that despite prior notifications, some airlines have not yet fully complied with these requirements.
The NCAA has warned that compliance will be strictly monitored, and airlines failing to meet these standards will face penalties.
The agency emphasized that the cooperation of all airlines is essential to supporting Nigeria’s efforts to meet global financial regulatory standards.
