Women’s Football Lack Financial Support- Coach Adarkwah

Nana Joe Adarkwah, coach of Ghana’s National Women’s U-17 team, the Black Maidens, has stated that men’s football in the country has experienced far greater financial development compared to women’s football.

Coach Adarkwah highlighted the issue of inadequate compensation for players on women’s teams, stating that some club owners fail to provide salaries or winning bonuses, making it difficult for the players to sustain themselves.

The coach, who previously managed Ampem Darkoaah FC in Techiman, Bono East, attributed the increasing trend of female players seeking opportunities abroad to these financial challenges.

Adarkwah made these remarks in an interview with BigFamily Sports, where he also addressed the issue of hooliganism at various league centers. He urged the security forces to provide increased security at these venues to address potential threats.

The coach further called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to invest in the development of women’s football in Ghana, enabling players to remain and gain experience in the local league for at least three to four seasons before pursuing opportunities in Europe.
