Warriors Miss NBA Cup Semifinals After Losing to Rockets

After his team lost to the Houston Rockets 91-90 and was eliminated from the NBA Cup semifinals, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr vented his indignation about an official call that he said was unprecedented in the late game.

Kerr said, “I’m pissed off,” following the game on Wednesday night. The game was on the line when a ludicrous loose-ball foul occurred 80 feet from the hoop, and we aren’t going because we wanted to win this Cup. In my entire life, I have never witnessed anything like it.

With Golden State leading by one point in the final seconds, Stephen Curry’s three-point attempt missed, resulting in a scramble for the rebound. Gary Payton II secured the ball but was fouled by Fred VanVleet. As Payton attempted a pass, Jonathan Kuminga and Jalen Green collided, resulting in a questionable foul call against Kuminga with 3.5 seconds remaining.

Green sank both free throws, giving Houston a 91-90 advantage. The Warriors’ final possession ended with Brandin Podziemski’s three-point attempt being blocked by Jabari Smith Jr., securing the victory for Houston and snapping a 15-game losing streak against Golden State. Houston will now face Oklahoma City in the NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas.
