Gospel singer Celestine Donkor recently shared her experience of being scammed while trying to place an order at the popular restaurant Papaye.
In a social media video posted on February 4, 2025, Celestine revealed that she lost GH¢1,000 while making arrangements for her niece’s birthday celebration.
“I created this video to raise awareness after being deceived by Papaye’s online service. I decided to order from their Lapaz location for my sister’s children’s birthday party. I called the number I found online, and after taking my order, they provided me with a bill and requested payment. I mentioned that I would pay upon pickup, but they refused, stating that some customers place orders and then don’t pay when the food is ready,” she recounted.

“I went ahead with the payment, but as soon as the money was deducted, I noticed that the recipient’s name wasn’t ‘Papaye.’ It was still the same number I had called. When I called back, they claimed to be Papaye but said they were using their manager’s number for transactions. They even asked me to enter a code. That’s when I realized I had been scammed,” she added.
Papaye Staff Seemed Aware Of Scam
Donkor further alleged that Papaye staff seemed aware of these fraudulent activities, but showed little interest in addressing the issue to prevent future scams.
“The attitude of the Papaye staff at the Lapaz branch when I got there clearly showed they were aware of the scam. Their response lacked any urgency or concern. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them is behind this fraud. Beware! Don’t be a victim,” she warned her followers.
Celestine Donkor’s experience is not isolated. Brand influencer and actress Ahuofe Patri recently shared a similar story of being scammed while attempting to order food from Papaye, suggesting a pattern of fraudulent activity.
