Swallow Your Pride And Bring Back Akwesi Appiah – Sonnie Badu to GFA

Head coach of Sudan, James Kwasi Appiah, has been hailed for his tactical brilliance as his side triumphed over the Black Stars in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers (AFCON2025 Qualifiers) second leg. This victory has sparked a lively debate on social media about Appiah’s potential return to lead Ghana.

Some users highlighted the struggles of current Ghana coach Otto Addo and advocated for Kwasi Appiah’s return. They believe his experience and tactical acumen could revitalize the Black Stars.

However, others countered this sentiment, arguing that the Black Stars’ problems extend beyond coaching and that Appiah might not be granted the autonomy he enjoys with Sudan. They advised him to remain focused on his current role and decline any potential offers from the Ghana Football Association.

The Ghana-Sudan game itself saw Sudan emerge victorious with goals from Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Mohammed and Yousif Yagoub. The Black Stars, in contrast, struggled to find their rhythm, failing to create meaningful chances or pose a significant threat to the Sudanese defense.

Sudan secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Ghana in their Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier in Group F, hosted in Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina.

Ahmed Al Tash and Mohamed Abdelrahman scored quick-fire goals in the second half to seal the win and increase pressure on Black Stars manager Otto Addo.

The teams drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture in Ghana, leaving the Black Stars winless in four matches with only two points.

The ongoing war in Sudan has forced the national team to host their matches outside the country. Sudan, currently sitting second in Group F behind Angola, has won two, drawn one, and lost one of their four matches in the group.

Ghana’s performance in the AFCON2025 Qualifiers has come under scrutiny, particularly following Nigeria’s refusal to play their Group D qualifier against Libya on Monday due to the team being held for over 20 hours at a deserted airport in Libya.

With four matches played in the AFCON2025 Qualifiers, Ghana currently sits in third place in Group F with just two points. Sudan occupies second place with seven points, while Angola leads the group with nine points, awaiting their fourth match.

The Black Stars face a challenging path ahead, with an upcoming fixture against Angola and a final clash against Niger in Ghana. Their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco are hanging by a thread, as a defeat in either of the remaining matches could severely jeopardize their qualification hopes.
