SAFA Boss Released On Bail Amid Corruption Probe

Danny Jordaan, president of the South African Football Association (Safa), has been released on bail after being arrested on Wednesday in connection with allegations of fraud and theft. The Hawks, South Africa’s organized crime investigation unit, are investigating claims that Jordaan misused Safa funds for personal gain between 2014 and 2018, amounting to 1.3 million rand.

Jordaan is accused of hiring a private security company for his personal protection and a public relations company without the authorization of the South African Football Association board. He appeared in court alongside Safa’s chief financial officer, Gronie Hluyo, and businessman Trevor Neethling, who were also released on bail. Ongoing Scrutiny and Calls for Resignation This adds to the growing scrutiny facing Jordaan, who has been Safa president since 2013. Despite his involvement in bringing the 2010 FIFA World Cup to South Africa, Jordaan has been criticized for alleged mismanagement and corruption within South African football.
