Philemon Gyapong Reveal 15,200 Nurses Cleared For Employment

In a significant development, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association ( GRNMA) has announced that 15,200 local nurses have been cleared for employment by the Ministry of Health. This move is expected to bring relief to thousands of unemployed nurses who have been waiting for job opportunities.
According to the GRNMA spokesperson Philemon Gyapong, the clearance of the 15,200 Nurses means that there is no room for outside recruitment. This implies that the Ministry of Health will not be recruiting foreign nurses to fill vacancies in the health sector.

The GRNMA spokesperson hailed the development as a major victory for local nurses, who have been struggling to find employment despite the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in the country.
Addressing recent concerns, Mr Gyapong confirmed that the Association is aware of financial clearance for 15,200 health professionals.
“The 15,200 which we are aware of have financial clearance. I don’t know of any outside recruitment. There is no recruitment outside of that that we are aware of,” he said.
This is a significant milestone for us, and we are excited that our members will finally have the opportunity to contribute their skills and expertise to the healthcare system”, the spokesperson said.
The clearance of the 15,200 nurses is expected to address the severe shortage of healthcare professionals in the country, particularly in rural areas. It will also help to reduce the unemployment rate among nurses, which has been a major concern for the profession.
Local Nurses Get Priority
When asked about the possibility of a strike, Mr Philemon Gyapong clarified that the Association’s earlier comments were meant as guidance, not a threat.
The GRNMA has been advocating for the employment of local nurses for several years , and the latest development is seen as a major breakthrough in their efforts. The association has pledged to continue working with the Ministry of Health to ensure that all qualified nurses are employed and deployed to areas of need.
