Otto Addo Does Not Deserve Black Stars Coaching Role – Kwaku Palmer

Osei Kwaku Palmer, the owner of Tema Youth Football Club, has launched a scathing critique of Black Stars coach Otto Addo, stating that the former Black Stars winger is not fit for his position as Ghana’s coach. In an interview with Asempa FM, Palmer asserted that Otto Addo has displayed gross incompetence during his tenure and should be dismissed.
He argued that the Black Stars’ poor results are a clear indication of Addo’s lack of competence. “I’ve always been clear with my opinion on Otto Addo (that he is not the right man),” he told Asempa FM. “If you look at the results that he has been producing, do you think he is doing well? We said Kwasi Appiah should be sacked because he was not good, but he is the one who has helped Sudan to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and beat us in the process,” he added, highlighting the irony of Ghana’s struggles compared to Sudan’s success under former coach Kwasi Appiah.
Otto Addo’s future has been a major topic of debate following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The team finished bottom of Group B with only three points from six matches against Angola, Sudan, and Niger. Ghana failed to win any of their qualifying matches, losing three and drawing three. The Ghana Football Association has acknowledged the situation and announced that they are consulting with the government to determine the next steps concerning Otto Addo’s position.

Otto Addo’s Performance in Black Stars So Far
Otto Addo’s coaching has been under scrutiny since the team’s winless streak in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, particularly the games against Niger and Angola. He was re-appointed as Black Stars coach in early March after his departure following Ghana’s group stage exit from the 2022 AFCON. In his second stint, the Black Stars have struggled to maintain consistency.
In their first match under Addo, the team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria.
In an international friendly against Uganda, they drew 2-2. However, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Ghana managed a 2-1 victory against Mali and a 4-3 win against the Central African Republic.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, though, proved to be a failure with a 1-0 defeat to Angola followed by a 1-1 draw, sealing their fate. In total, Otto Addo has overseen three wins, one draw, and two defeats in his second stint, with the team scoring and conceding ten goals. This inconsistency has raised concerns among sports analysts and the public about his management of key players and his game tactics. Ultimately, the Ghana Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw against Angola, marking the first time they have missed the tournament since 2004. Despite earlier assurances, Otto Addo failed to secure Ghana’s qualification for the tournament.
