NSMQ 2024: Mfantsipim Battles To Win The Coveted Trophy

Mfantsipim School, playing on home turf in Cape Coast, lived up to their “host and win” motto, securing a thrilling victory in the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). In a nail-biting final round, they edged out St. Augustine’s College by a single point, claiming the coveted trophy.

The competition was a rollercoaster of emotions, with tension mounting as the three finalists – Mfantsipim School, Keta Senior High Technical School, and St. Augustine’s College – battled for the title.

The first four rounds saw a tight contest, with St. Augustine’s maintaining a slight lead over Mfantsipim, while Keta SHTS struggled to keep pace.

The final round, a riddle round, proved to be the deciding factor. Mfantsipim answered one crucial riddle correctly, earning them three points and a final score of 47, securing their victory.

The Cape Coast school emerged as champions, taking home the coveted NSMQ trophy, over GH¢70,000 in cash, and various other prizes. Their victory sparked celebrations among their supporters, proving their dominance in the competition.

Launched in 1993 by Primetime Limited, the NSMQ has become a cornerstone of Ghanaian education, inspiring students to pursue science and mathematics. The competition has evolved from a televised quiz in Accra into a national phenomenon, fostering academic excellence, friendly rivalries, and strong alumni networks.

The 2024 competition, held in Cape Coast, marked a significant shift, allowing more regional audiences to experience the excitement firsthand.

With a record-breaking 157 schools participating this year, the NSMQ continues to inspire future generations of scientists and mathematicians, solidifying its place as a vital pillar of academic achievement in Ghana.
