[VIDEO] Kwami Sefa Kayi Apologizes to NDC, Pleads For Return To Kokrokoo

Renowned broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi, the host of the morning show “Kokrokoo” on Accra’s Peace FM, has made a public appeal to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to lift its five-year boycott of the program.

The NDC began the boycott in May 2020, citing perceived bias and a “dictatorial” demeanor from the host, along with an “unjust paneling system” implemented by the production team. In a statement from then National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, the party expressed dissatisfaction with the show’s refusal to replace former NDC Central Regional Chairman Allotey Jacobs with a more impartial NDC representative. The NDC claimed it had been treated with “utmost contempt,” leading to its decision to withdraw from the program.

However, speaking on Peace FM on Monday, February 3, 2025, Kwami Sefa Kayi declared that five years was a sufficient period for the boycott and extended a conciliatory invitation to the NDC to return to “Kokrokoo.”

Issues Between The Two Sides Have Been Resolved

He expressed optimism that any previous issues between the two sides had been resolved and encouraged the NDC to move forward.

“Management and those of us working on this issue have had extensive engagements with the NDC, and at this point, I think there is no problem anymore. This is a new year. The NDC should let bygones be bygones, they should return so we can work together. At the end of the day, we need them, and they also need us. We have the biggest platform, and they are a formidable political party that is now in government, so we need each other. It is a symbiotic relationship, the left hand washes the right hand and vice versa. I believe there is no issue now.”

Kwami Sefa Kayi also took personal responsibility for the past disagreements. “As the head of the morning show, I take responsibility, and I know management will back me when I say we should apologize to each other so that both parties can work together again. I don’t think that would be out of place,” he said.

“All I will say is that we have started a new year. It has been almost five years since the NDC boycotted Kokrokoo. So, we are extending an olive branch to them. The NDC should come back, and let us work together as we did in the beginning. As I said, as the leader of the morning show, I take responsibility for what happened, so let us move on.”
