“It Hurts To Hear People Say I Killed Suzzy Williams” – Nana Ama McBrown

For the past two decades, Nana Ama McBrown has been the target of persistent accusations, alleging that she was responsible for the death of actress Suzzy Williams and subsequently capitalized on her fame. After a long period of silence, McBrown has finally spoken out about how these rumors have impacted her.

Suzzy Williams, who tragically died in September 2005, was a prominent actress at the time. Renowned for her exceptional talent, she was a highly sought-after figure, starring in numerous movies and commercials. During that period, McBrown, who was still building her career, was frequently cast alongside Williams in films.

Following Suzzy Williams’ death, rumors began circulating that if she had lived, Nana Ama McBrown would not have achieved her current level of success. Some even went so far as to claim that McBrown viewed Suzzy as a rival and might have played a role in her death.

In a recent discussion on Onua Showtime, McBrown addressed these long-standing rumors and shared her feelings on the matter. She emphasized that, despite Suzzy being a bigger star at the time, she never saw her as a competitor, let alone to the point of wanting her harm.

McBrown explained, “Suzzy was like a sister to me. We were often paired together on sets, including Abdul Salam Mumuni’s productions and shows like Tentacles. When I first heard of Suzzy’s death, I had just got back from Italy. I was in a Ford bus heading home, and that was when I found out. It was a shock.”

She continued, “At that time, Suzzy was hotter and more successful than me. I know I was also getting noticed, but Suzzy’s presence, especially in Accra, where the entertainment scene was so vibrant, was undeniable. She had the confidence that came with it.”

The actress also recounted the moment she learned of Suzzy’s passing, stating, “When I heard the news, the first person I called was Kofi Adjorlolo to confirm if it was true. He told me it was, and even mentioned he was standing by her body at the mortuary. It wasn’t a serious injury, just some scratches on her breast. But then, I started hearing accusations that I had killed Suzzy.”

Nana Ama McBrown, clearly frustrated by the allegations, challenged anyone with evidence, saying, “If I’ve ever gone to any juju man, I challenge them to come forward and speak. At that time, we didn’t even know what competition was. Suzzy was Ewe, and I’m Asante. How could an Asante woman like me have done something like that to her?”

Reflecting on the emotional impact, McBrown admitted, “It hurts, and to this day, people still accuse me. But I leave it to God.”
