I Was Disappointed Abeiku Santana Wasn’t Appointed GTA CEO – MC Yaa Yeboah

Entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has voiced her disappointment with the appointment of Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), stating that she believes Abeiku Santana would have been a more suitable candidate.

Speaking on “United Showbiz” on February 2, 2025, Yaa Yeboah admitted to being surprised by the appointment, noting that Maame Efua Houadjeto is not a widely recognized figure within the tourism sector. She emphasized that, in her view, Abeiku Santana has a stronger and more prominent profile for such a position.

“When I saw the appointment, I was asking myself who she was because I was trying to get bits and pieces of information about her… Also, I don’t know how much of a role she has played in the tourism sector. I was disappointed when I heard she was appointed because I was expecting Abeiku Santana to head this sector,” Yaa Yeboah explained.

She further added, “This is no secret among industry players. The former boss of GTA did a great job, and Abeiku has made an impact in the sector.”

Despite her reservations, MC Yaa Yeboah urged Maame Efua Houadjeto to dedicate herself to the role and seek guidance from experienced professionals in the tourism industry.

“The former boss did a great job when he assumed office in 2017, and the numbers are there to show. So, she is welcome, but she should consult people who have the experience,” Yaa Yeboah advised. “The job is a huge one, and based on the NDC manifesto, they want to do a lot in that sector. As for criticism, we are going to criticise her if she goes wrong. There should also be a proper transition from the former GTA boss to her.”

President John Dramani Mahama announced Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto’s appointment as CEO of the GTA on Friday, January 31, 2025. She replaces Akwasi Agyeman, who stepped down after serving an eight-year term.

The Ghana Tourism Authority, operating under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, is mandated to promote Ghana as a leading sustainable tourism destination through the strategic application of technology, regulation, and innovation.
