GFA To Sack John Paintsil & Joseph Laumann

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly planning to dismiss Black Stars assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann as part of a larger overhaul of the technical team. This move aims to bring in more competent personnel as Ghana prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
According to reports, the GFA is in discussions with a Belgian and a Serbian coach to replace Paintsil and Laumann. While the fate of head coach Otto Addo remains undecided, the football governing body is focused on assembling the best coaching staff possible for the Black Stars. This overhaul is intended to revive the fortunes of the Black Stars following their disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Otto Addo and his technical staff have faced considerable criticism from the public due to their poor performance in the qualifiers. Despite the setback in the AFCON qualifiers, the Black Stars are currently joint top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers, with nine points from four matches. When the qualifiers resume in March 2025, the Black Stars will play at home against Chad and then travel to Madagascar.
Critics From Kwaku Palmer
Osei Kwaku Palmer, the owner of Tema Youth Football Club, has launched a scathing critique of Black Stars coach Otto Addo, stating that the former Black Stars winger is not fit for his position as Ghana’s coach. In an interview with Asempa FM, Palmer asserted that Otto Addo has displayed gross incompetence during his tenure and should be dismissed.
He argued that the Black Stars’ poor results are a clear indication of Addo’s lack of competence. “I’ve always been clear with my opinion on Otto Addo (that he is not the right man),” he told Asempa FM. “If you look at the results that he has been producing, do you think he is doing well? We said Kwasi Appiah should be sacked because he was not good, but he is the one who has helped Sudan to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and beat us in the process,” he added, highlighting the irony of Ghana’s struggles compared to Sudan’s success under former coach Kwasi Appiah.
