Media personality Berla Mundi has weighed in on the recent comments made by Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations-designate, Sam George, regarding his wife’s financial support. Mundi made it clear that George’s situation should not be used as a standard for Ghanaian men to expect their women to provide for them.
“Dear Ghanaian men, don’t use Sam George as an excuse to force us to take care of you! ‘We no go gree,’” she declared on X, emphasizing her disapproval of such an expectation.
The discussion arose following Sam George’s appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 30. During the vetting process, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Ranking Member of the committee, questioned George about his secondary sources of income beyond his parliamentary salary.
Afenyo-Markin asked, “Did you have the benefit of any secondary source of income?”
George responded, “Mr. Chairman, I am married to a very industrious woman.”
When pressed further on the matter, with Afenyo-Markin asking, “If you say you are married to an industrious woman and that is your secondary source of income, what exactly do you mean?” George clarified, “I mean my wife takes care of me.”
His statement about his wife providing for him has garnered significant attention on social media, with many expressing admiration for his open acknowledgment of her support. However, Berla Mundi has cautioned against interpreting his experience as a general expectation for women in Ghanaian relationships.
