Baba Sadiq and Ebi Bright Lose Parliamentary Seats After Recollation

A re-collation of ballots by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Saturday has resulted in a change of fortunes for two Ghanaian creatives, music entrepreneur Baba Sadiq and actress Ebi Bright, who have both lost their initially declared parliamentary victories in the 2024 elections.

Following the re-collation, Baba Sadiq, who had initially been announced as the winner in Okaikwei Central with 15,383 votes, narrowly ahead of the incumbent MP Patrick Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with 14,949 votes, saw his lead overturned. The EC’s results released on December 21, 2024, now show that Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent, secured 21,099 votes, retaining his seat, while Baba Sadiq received 19,368 votes.

Similarly, actress Ebi Bright, who had initially been declared the winner in Tema Central, defeating Charles Forson of the NPP by a slim margin of 118 votes (18,539 to 18,421), also lost her lead. The revised results indicate that Charles Forson of the NPP garnered 18,870 votes, while Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) received 18,815 votes.

The EC undertook the re-collation and declaration of results in nine disputed constituencies following a court order. In Obuasi East, Patrick Boakye-Yiadom of the NPP maintained his seat with 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating Samuel Aboagye of the NDC. In Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh of the NPP won with 29,640 votes, surpassing Fummey Philibert of the NDC.

Further re-collation results show Nana Agyemang Prempeh of the NPP retaining his seat in Ahafo Ano North with 20,353 votes, narrowly beating Kwasi Adusei of the NDC. Additionally, Elvis Osei Dapaah of the NPP won in Ahafo Ano South West with 16,058 votes, and Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah of the NPP was declared the winner in Techiman South. The re-collation process was conducted under strict security measures to ensure transparency and compliance with all electoral laws.
