Akua Donkor, Presidential Candidate For GFP Reportedly Dead

Ghana has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Akua Donkor, the charismatic founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party. Donkor, who was 72, died in the early hours of Tuesday, October 29, 2024. News of her death quickly spread on social media, leaving many Ghanaians in shock.
Cause of Death:
According to senior broadcast journalist Ernest Frimpong Manso, Donkor had been diagnosed with respiratory issues at Nsawam Hospital. She was subsequently transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) Intensive Care Unit, where she passed away around 10 pm on Monday, October 28.

Tributes for the late Akua Donkor have been pouring in from across Ghana since the news of her passing was announced. Kafui Dey, a GBC broadcast journalist, shared his condolences, stating, “Rest well. You will be remembered for your persistence and determination.” Social media users have also expressed their sadness and offered their condolences to her family.
A Life of Politics and Advocacy:
Donkor, a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, was well-known for her outspoken views and her unwavering commitment to championing the needs of farmers and journalists. She was a vocal advocate for social justice and held strong opinions on a wide range of issues.
Donkor’s most recent political endeavor was her bid for the presidency in the 2024 general elections, where she ran on the Ghana Freedom Party ticket. Her campaign promises included prioritizing farmer remuneration, providing free vehicles for journalists, and offering duty-free port services for the clearance of goods.
